Agape is a parish youth group for high school students, run at St John the apostle parish in Kippax.
It is named after one of the many Greek words for love ‘ἀγάπη’ (pronounced Ah-ga-pay), which is the deepest form of love, a love that transcends all and the love that God feels for his creation.
The youth group is a great experience for everyone involved, and after every single night everyone leaves the room feeling that they’ve gained something out of it.
It’s a night of fun and games, we all share a meal together and get to know each other. We’re all on our faith journey together and it’s important to experience your faith with other people. It makes it difficult to try and learn about your faith if you don’t have friends and people around your age to learn about it with you. An important part of our faith is asking questions, and at Agape we more than encourage everyone to ask questions, and we always try our best to answer them. We have Deacon Alex Osbourne as a regular attendee, and one of the Parish priests, Father Kimi there who always helps us with the night and answer our questions.
This term at Agape we’re learning about saints, and what they are in our Church. Saints are sometimes a confusing subject and learning how we can pray with them properly can be a very powerful way to enhance our prayer life. We are focusing on our parish saint; St John the Apostle, our High school saint; St Francis Xavier, our own Australian Saint; St Mary Mackillop and of course, St Mary the mother of Jesus.
We always encourage more people to come and it is always an open invitation.
We hold Agape every 1st & 3rd Sunday of the month, and we hope to see you there!
Jake Wenger – Youth Minister of Saint Francis Xavier.
